Henderson State University’s Theatre and Dance is proud to present Dance Company in Concert, the annual resident dance company’s concert.  All works are choreographed by the students, guest artists, and director, Jennifer Maddox. The 21 member student company will show their diverse abilities through their choreography and performance. Guest artists, Melanie Hymel, set Destination Known, a beautifully constructed experimental modern piece; and, Lakeisha Sharpley, set Strength, a powerful contemporary piece.  Jennifer Maddox, HSU Artist in Residence and Dance Company Director, set Of This World: This We Believe, a piece in two movements set to the music of Vivaldi. Her choreography has been described as provocative, with many elements working together in harmony. There are ten other original pieces, choreographed by the student company and student choreographers, which were selected by a choreography panel for the concert.

NLRHS Elementary Dance Workshop


The NLRHS Preschool/Elementary Dance Workshop is getting close!

It will be held on Saturday, May 7th from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM

They will accept the first 60 applicants, so sign up early.  
Registration forms and money are due by April 22nd, but they will close registration if they reach 60 applicants before that date. 

 
Here you will also find the Patron Ad form in case you want to buy an ad in the Spring Dance Concert program for your child. These are due no later than April 28th

Apollo's Angels: A History of Ballet

Jennifer Homans, dance critic for The New Republic and former dancer with San Fransisco Ballet and Pacific Northwest Ballet, has written a book on the history of ballet that's receiving lots of acclaim and buzz.  The title of the book is Apollo's Angels.  

The New York Times has listed it as one of the ten best books of 2010, and a Times reviewer calls it "the only truly definitive history of the most impossibly fantastic art form, ballet."  Check out these sites on the book and the author:

THEA Foundation Scholarship Auditions

High School Seniors - It is now time to sign-up for THEA Foundation's Performing Arts Scholarship Auditions for 2011. The date is February 12.

Auditions will be at the New Argenta Community Theater right next to the THEA Foundation in North Little Rock at the corner of 4th and Main.
